Ridge building in

You could really feel it yesterday, especially here around Houston. The ridge of high pressure is building in and squashing any potential rain showers and leading to hot temperatures.

Heat index values will soar well north of 100F each day through at least the next week and a half and actual temperatures will climb into the upper 90s to near 100F as well. Houston should climb into the upper 90s today, then stay near 100F through next week. Low 100s will likely become a daily occurrence next week. Records could be reached or broken a couple days, especially late next week. Farther east, temperatures will be a little cooler. Lafayette should start seeing highs in the upper 90s by Friday and that's where they will stay through next week. It looks like all time high temp records will be safe, but it could come close if things trend a touch warmer.

At some point we'll get back into a wetter pattern, but it won't likely come until after next week. Thunderstorms won't be far off, just north of the high pressure ridge's reach it will be very storm from Oklahoma and north Texas through northern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
