More storms later today

Portions of Acadiana got popped pretty good with some heavy thunderstorms yesterday evening and that will again be a threat this afternoon. A disturbance in Arkansas will be the catalysts today as it spreads southward. 1-4pm is the mostly likely time of impact across Acadiana and thunderstorms could carry some wind gusts of 40+mph, brief very heavy rain and frequent lightning. Most places will see less than 1 inch of rain, but isolate totals of near 2.0 to 2.5 inches are possible.
Farther west around Houston, it will be another very hot day and the risk of thunderstorms is expected to hold off until this evening (not good timing for Friday festivities). After 5pm and through 10pm will carry the best chance of storms. Thunderstorms should blow in from the northeast and not all areas will get hit. But, the locations that do see storms could see strong wind gusts and frequent lightning, along with the brief heavy rainfall. Wind gusts over 50 mph will be possible.
Depending on how things go this afternoon and tonight, lingering moisture could kick off a few more storms tomorrow, but Acadiana is looking mostly dry at this point. A little higher moisture will exist over Houston. It'll feel noticeably drier around Acadiana, but not so much in SE TX.
Temperatures will be down close to normal on Sunday and rain chances look very slim. Actually, much of next week will see near normal temperatures as the ridge of high pressure continues to weaken and loose its influence. A cold front will sag into the area by mid week which could boost rain chances mid to late next week. Locally heavy rainfall could become a threat and there is a chance of a little more substantial drought relief.
Praise God this hot and dry pattern is breaking!
