Lowering highs and rising rain chances

Today will, again, be pretty hot. However, look for rain chances to increase through the weekend and more clouds and rain around will drop afternoon temperatures a few to several degrees. Even with the lowering high temperatures, increased humidity will lead to higher heat index values.
We are already seeing showers and a few storms offshore today which is the leading edge of the higher moisture. The higher moisture levels will be pushed inland behind an upper level low pressure system that is heading west into Texas. Rain chances will increase, but still won't be too high tomorrow, (20-30% for Houston and 30-40% for Acadiana) but look for rain chances to run in the 40-60% range Sunday through Tuesday of next week as that upper level low pressure area lingers. Coastal areas will have the highest rain chances in the morning with inland areas seeing the best chance of rain through the afternoon and early evening hours.
Thunderstorms will be capable of brief heavy rain and gusty winds each day. An isolated strong storm or two is possible tomorrow and Sunday, but that risk becomes even lower early next week. As far as rain totals, showers and thunderstorms will be capable of a quick 0.25 to 0.75 inch of rain. Locally, some spots could get 2-3 inches in the heavier showers and thunderstorms. That will be very isolated though.
