Heat ridge continues to squash

An isolated storm or two will again be possible today, mainly south of I-10 in Texas, but most areas will be hot and dry. My house was a half a mile from 1.5 inches of rain yesterday...just missed it! Temperatures inch hotter tomorrow and Sunday and rain chances drop even lower as the large ridge of high pressure builds and leads to the sinking air that produces hotter temps and limits deep cloud development. The heat should peak Sunday and Monday, but all of next week looks hot and dry. There is some uncertainty with a weak disturbance and higher moisture over the SE US which could inch close enough to allow for better rain chances over Acadiana Monday evening through Wednesday. But, it currently looks like it will stay just east enough to prevent any significant change. It will be close though and could mean some big changes if if slides a little farther west.
Regarding actual temperatures, hottest temps should be Sunday and Monday with highs at or just above 100F. Record highs for Saturday, Sunday and Monday for Lafayette or 98, 101 and 103 respectively. I think the records will be safe, but it won't be far off. Hottest temperature ever recorded in Lafayette in July (records starting in 1893) was 107F on July 13, 1901. That is the all time highest temperatures for the year. In Houston, depending on which station you look at, afternoon highs will be very close to records tomorrow through Tuesday.
