Heat ridge breaking down some

Hot and mostly dry weather should continue to impact the region, but the ridge of high pressure is now expected to break down enough to allow for a decent risk of a few showers and thunderstorms over Acadiana this evening and Sunday. If thunderstorms can sneak in, they could be strong. However, by far the greatest risk of strong storms will be off to the north. Chances will be around 20%. Farther west over Houston, I can't completely rule out some stronger thunderstorm activity to the northwest sneaking in, but that risk looks really low right now, especially south of I-10.
The ridge of high pressure will build a bit again Monday into Tuesday, leading to potentially a little hotter temperatures and near 0 rain chances. It still looks as though the ridge will finally get a could kick to the west mid to late next week as a trough moves in from the east. This will allow for a downward trend in temperatures and an increase in rain chances.
Looking at specific temperatures, Lafayette got up to around 97F yesterday and temps should end up there or a degree higher today. We should see temperatures trend downward a tad on Sunday before increasing again Monday and Tuesday. Farther west over Houston, temperatures peaked a degree or two cooler than Lafayette, which is weird. Typically its the other way around. Regardless, we should see an afternoon high of a degree or two higher today in Houston, then also a slightly lower high Sunday followed by hotter Monday and Tuesday. Regardless of all this, humidity will be high and heat index values will be peaking up near or over 110F each day through the first half of next week. So, its going to be pretty tough to work in the heat of the day. Even at night, as I'm sure you've felt, temperatures won't cool that much. That will continue.
