First heat wave of the summer coming

Well, we knew it would happen eventually, but the first heat wave should start this weekend and settle in next week. It certainly doesn't look too extreme, but mid to upper 90s for highs for Houston and mid 90s for Acadiana looks likely. Rain chances won't be 0, so some spots could see some relief, but most areas will be dry and hot through most of next week.

Looking at the short term, there should be a good scattering of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. It will not be as widespread and they won't be as heavy as yesterday, but brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds will be possible. Rain chances will decrease a bit tomorrow and the downward trend will continue into the weekend with the aforementioned heat wave. It looks like there will be a good 30-40% coverage of showers and thunderstorms today and 20-30% tomorrow.
