Another scorcher

Temps will, yet again, top out above 100F today with a high of near or just above where temperatures peaked yesterday. There were are few showers that popped up yesterday and I expect more coverage today. However, the storms won't pop until about 3-4pm or after so they'll be plenty of heat before any potential relief. Any thunderstorms that do develop will be capable of brief wind gusts to 40-50 mph. Brief heavy rain with thunderstorms will be nice, but won't provide any significant relief from the drought. Rain chances go down some tomorrow, but pick back up a bit over the weekend. In general though, temperatures will remain hot with the daily risk of some brief relief over the second half of the afternoon each day.
A weak front is still expected to slide into the area early to mid next week which should, at least briefly, bring higher rain chances. Temperatures should average lower as well mid to late next week.
One great thing about the drought is the ridge of high pressure responsible for it has kept tropical systems away. That should remain the case through next week. A lot of the models are catching onto a system that may form in the western Caribbean that would eventually track into Florida towards the middle of next week. A trough of low pressure over the eastern US will likely pull it northward through Florida and the ridging over the central and western Gulf coast will keep it from heading out way. Still several days away and I'll continue to keep a close eye on it.
