A lucky few could see rain today

A disturbance over the Ark latex region will sink just enough south to spark a few showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, so some folks will get lucky and see some rain today. Its hard to tell which area has the best shot, some models are showing higher chances just east of Houston...others show more over Acadiana. In general, rain chances/coverage will be around 30% from around 3pm to 9pm over SE TX and Acadiana.
It'll still be quite hot today and afternoons will remain very hot through the weekend. Areas that don't get rain, look for things to continue to dry out. Higher humidity is helping with fire /burn concerns, but heat index values will remain pretty high in the afternoon thanks to that humidity.
Rain chances go down a bit tomorrow, and will be very low most of Sunday. A weak cold front will then become a focus of our attention as it could be a good source of rain chances. We could see a few storms as early as late Sunday, but higher rain chances (50%+) will likely hold off until Monday and potentially linger on Tuesday depending on the placement of the front. Locally strong thunderstorms will be possible and isolated spots could pick up 1-3 inches of rain.
Drier air moves in by Wednesday which will cut into the humidity and drop rain chances through the end of next week.
Looking at the tropics....Praise God! It looks like we will be going through yet another week without a forecast "cone" from a hurricane pointed our way. I don't see anything in the next 10-14 days that would change that. As we get later in the fall we need to keep a close eye on these weak fronts that slip in from the north. They can sometimes spin up in to a storm over the Gulf. No signs of that yet, but its something to watch. Most of the big storms roaring through the Atlantic should turn north well east of us, but I'll keep a close eye on that too.
